Special Delivery Pt 2

Part two ! What to pack for baby 🐣

When it came to pack for baby, I packed very light! Most hospitals supply the essentials, which comes in handy and you can leave your baby essentials for when you get home! So for my special delivery, this is what I packed:

Since I would now be packing for 3 kids, having a bag big enough to accommodate their things and mine became essential (Who has time to drag around a purse and diaper bag? Not this mama!). I realized over the years that I LOVE a good back pack diaper bag. I’ve used them all: crossbody, interchangeable, etc. You name it- I used it . What worked better for my needs was a diaper backpack. The one that I use still is by Itzy Ritzy. It has so much space and was designed with both baby and mommy in mind! https://www.itzyritzy.com/products/diaper-bag-backpack?utm_content=Facebook_UA&variant=40462527234219&utm_source=IGShopping&utm_medium=Social

They also have these wonderful storage cubes, which are great for extra organization inside your bag. Since I pack for three, it helps to break each cube up for each child. These are the ones I currently use in my diaper bag!

Babies have accidents- that is no secret. Even toddlers who are potty training will have a little accident or two. I love having a wet bag to store messy clothes. This wet bag is EASY to clean; you can throw it right into the wash and I’ve had this particular one for the last 4 years and it’s still holding up through many washes and children accidents 🤦🏾‍♀️. This is the one I currently use: https://www.itzyritzy.com/collections/snack-wet-bags/products/large-wet-bag?variant=36833175244

In the times in which we live, I always want my newborn covered. Even before these current times, I always made sure I had a cover for my car seat and stroller (keep dem germs away sis!!). Here is a cover that has 4 different uses. One of my favorite things is that you can use it to cover up those shopping carts too if you have a older child who is sitting already or for when baby starts to sit! https://www.itzyritzy.com/collections/baby-covers/products/mom-boss-multi-use-cover?variant=40522140909739

I always kept a pacifier on hand (Don’t come for me lol 😂 even though my last two kid’s never used one, but hey there’s always the 4th go around! 😉). The packing cubes have a small enough case which you can store these amazing soothies (pacifiers). I love the simplicity of these:

We also used these! https://www.target.com/p/mam-glow-in-the-dark-night-pacifier-0-6m-2ct-blue/-/A-75454568#lnk=sametab

When also packing for a newborn, I made sure I had extra cloths on hand ALWAYS!

Extra socks. Babies love to kick and as they kick the socks roll down and eventually on the floor to never be found again 😆. So having extra on hand is a great idea.

I also carried an extra blanket. Little ones need some support controlling their body temperature, so I always made sure to have a little blanket no matter the season.

For daily essentials, I carry a diaper rash cream, diapers and in my case, pull ups also. I carry baby wipes (I try to stay as clean as possible and avoid baby products that are fragranced, especially for essentials). I made sure to carry a first aid baby travel kit and still have it in my bag daily. For the new born stage, before the umbilical cord falls off, you have to make sure the area stays clean. I carried all the things needed to ensure I kept that area clean to avoid infection and for my older kids, well the first aid is totally needed. Sorry, but toddlers are accident prone all the way LOL 😂 .

If your welcoming a new baby with older ones, I have a blog post coming for you soon! (I got you 😉!)

With love always,

Tracy|XoRuddy

Special Delivery

When I had my first child, I had zero idea what to pack in my hospital bag. When I had my second, it became a little more clear, but when I had my third, it felt like second nature and I think my husband was kinda happy that he did not have to lug 3 heavy bags around with a car seat trying to leave the hospital on going home day. (LOL 😆) So here’s what I packed!

Before packing essentials…

Before you pack, make sure you have an accommodating bag. I’m not talking some little PINK travel one (ladies, you know what I’m talking about!), but something filled with plenty of storage! I used a Vera Bradley travel bag. It has lots of storage on the inside and outside, is easy to clean, and has an over the neck strap which helps when going home and having your hands free to attend to baby.

And trust me on this one! Get yourself a over the door caddy! Here’s why: All of my deliveries, I had my own bathroom and room and even if you don’t, this comes in super handy! I packed all my special care items in here to bathe with and the things I needed quick access to, like pads and special underwear (YOU WANT TO CARRY YOUR OWN CAUSE THEM HOSPITAL ONES AIN’T IT SIS). I was able to hang it right on the outside of my bathroom door and this made a world of difference for my the second time around, and third!

Now on to packing…

1. Hospital slippers that are slip resistance. Nothing expensive, but something that you won’t miss after leaving the hospital that you can throw away. You will be walking around (no one has time for blood clots, okurrrr!), so this will help you not fall on those slippery floors (does anyone know why hospital floors are so damn shiny and slippery?! ) My suggestion: https://www.target.com/p/women-s-faux-fur-cozy-pull-on-slipper-socks/-/A-82482736?preselect=82270195#lnk=sametab

2. My first time and even my second time, I used a pull on night dress that had buttons in the front for me to nurse. The third time I bought myself some robes. You will be checked often, you will need to use the bathroom, you will hopefully attempt nursing, so with all that being said,!comfortable robes are the way to go! I packed three, but I only stayed one whole night- but having extra never hurt any one!

3. No matter the kind of delivery you will have, you WILL BLEED! And you will BLEED A LOT! ( Look, we grown folks here!). As I mentioned, them hospital mesh panties and one size fits none pads ain’t it sis. You ever saw this text BYOB? (bring your own bottle 😂), well BYOP (bring your own pads sis!). I also brought my own underwear. Granny panties all the way!! My suggestion is to buy a size or half a size bigger than normal. You’re going to have a belly still and your tummy will be puffy. You’re going to have pain down under, etc. so make some room by buying a size bigger than normal for yourself.

4. Don’t forget your chapstick sis! My lips were always dry after my deliveries, like ALWAYS!! So having that one handy was great!

5. Bring your lotion! With a newborn, I keep it simple with my body care. You never know what might cause your baby to break out so I avoided things like body spray and scented lotions, but I did bring my own body cream. I love this brand, especially during the colder times. https://www.target.com/p/cetaphil-moisturizing-cream-unscented-16oz/-/A-13376159#lnk=sametab

6. Don’t forget your travel tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant! Travel size ALL THE WAY! And my long hair sistas, don’t forget your hair ties!

7. I like to look and feel my best, so I packed my travel sized makeup-again simple. My travel size eyeshadow, mascara, and facial powder. Look, after birth and not being in my normal routine, this little thing allowed me to feel a little more normal and look and feel more like myself. 🧡

8. Don’t forget an antibacterial bar soap. Yes, bar soap is drying and thats the point! After birth, as I mentioned, you will bleed A LOT! So when you can, take your first shower in the hospital because you want to get all that blood off your inner thighs, etc. (WE GROWN SO NO SORRY FOR THE TMI 😂). Antibacterial will help kill germs and odor causing bacteria. I like to use this: https://www.target.com/p/dial-antibacterial-deodorant-gold-bar-soap/-/A-79218977?preselect=16679238#lnk=sametab

9. Don’t forget your own body towel and if you use any rags or loofa to shower, be sure to pack your own. This is another thing your caddy will be useful for because you can hang these items on it to dry.

10. Shower slippers, also with the grip on the bottom. I don’t like to use outdoor showers without slippers on my feet (gyms, pools etc), so I always bring my own and the grip will help you not slip.

11. Don’t forget your partner! Pack an extra underwear for them (two should be good!). In a zip lock, pack travel essentials for them like a toothbrush, deodorant, etc. and an extra outfit for them. My husband was allowed to stay with me over night and my mom stayed home with the kids, so having things for him to freshen up made him feel good! (remember- you are a team ! 🧡)

12. Pack those chargers! PACK THESE FIRST!! LOL. It’s something so mundane for our time, which is why it’s so easy to forget. 😂

13. Lastly, SNACKS!😂 Yup. Nothing wrong with a little snack! Especially in the hospital! Hehe 😉

NOW, LET’S GET READY FOR BABY!!

Next week, I’ll be talking about what to pack in your baby bag for your special delivery! 🧡🤗

With love always,

Tracy|XoRuddy 🧡

You’re NOT Drinking Enough…Water!

How about them water reps sis!

We have all heard over the years how important drinking water is for our overall health. When pregnant and/or breastfeeding, that theory hits differently, FOR SURE!

When I was pregnant with my daughter, Zariyah, I had issues with dehydration to the point that in my second trimester, my water levels dropped extremely low and it was concerning to our OB/GYN. With guidance from our health care provider, I was able to mitigate that situation, but I learned in that moment as well that I was not drinking nearly as much water as I should.

According to mayoclinic.org, “The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is: About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men. About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women”. Now this amount will vary based on everyones’ individual needs, but let’s be honest, how many of us are meeting this general goal?

According to acog.org, “During pregnancy, you should drink 8 to 12 cups (64 to 96 ounces) of water every day. Water has many benefits. It aids digestion and helps form the amniotic fluid around the fetus. Water also helps nutrients circulate in the body and helps waste leave the body”.  During my pregnancy with Zariyah, I had received a new promotion and became a supervisor for two departments. This new role had me in more conferences, more trainings, and required a lot more from me daily than my previous position of case manager. I was hardly making it to the half a gallon mark daily and due to that, my amniotic fluid dropped. Once my water intake increased and I kept consistent with my gallon of water a day (the amount of bathroom breaks I had to take was UNREAL!), my fluid levels increased and did not experience any more complications the rest of my pregnancy.

Now, does the water intake change after pregnancy? As stated by eatright.org, “As a nursing mother, you need about 16 cups per day of water, which can come from food, beverages and drinking water, to compensate for the extra water that is used to make milk. One way to help you get the fluids you need is to drink a large glass of water each time you breastfeed your baby”.  After my experience in my pregnancy, I became used to drinking a gallon of water a day and I ate food that promoted healthy breast milk increase. The site whattoexpect.com suggests things like Fenugreek.  I personally have been using Fenugreek during my breastfeeding journey, (which is going on 27 months!), with products from one of my favorite motherhood brands, UpSpring. After discovering their products on a Target run during my nursing journey with my second child, their products have been a staple in my household and WILL CONTINUE TO BE. Not only are they good-for-you products, but THEY WORK! I went from pumping 2oz in 30 min after returning to work to 5oz FROM EACH BREAST in 15mins and none of my kids have had any side effects.  I also did not notice any decrease in my supply when I skipped a few days or a week of usage. I love their brand and products so much and truly stand by them! You can find their brand on Amazon, Walmart, Target, BuyBuyBaby and on their website at  myupspring.com

Some other foods that aid breastmilk increase include Oatmeal, or oat milk, Funnel seeds, and if you eat meat, lean meat and poultry.  They even suggest that garlic may even aid in breastmilk increase (but if you try that, don’t forget your breath mints LOL 🙂 ).todaysparent.com suggests things like barley, brewers yeast, papaya and to avoid antilactogenic foods, such as high levels of caffeine (but seriously, how can you mom it without a few cups of coffee? Because by noon, I’ve already had my second: GUILTY!).

Over time I have found a routine and nutrition plan that works for me and baby, but most recently I have added something new to my line up from UpSpring. Recently, UpSpring came out with a sister-line called U.Siip. It offers a less boring way to hydrate, which is made for all stages motherhood, with blends packed with electrolytes and that are plant based, low calories, made with 4g of organic cane sugar, and with zero artificial sweeteners. The flavors currently offered are: Lemon lime and Citrus ginger. Over the last few months, I have been incorporating daily workouts into my routine, and with that comes sweat and with sweat comes thirst. For me, my thirst is on 100,000 since I’m still breastfeeding (if thirst levels had a number).  To make sure that I don’t become dehydrated, I have been adding these packets to my water twice a day. The day I started using it, I started to experience forms of dehydration even with drink my gallon of water daily. My lips were a little dry, my mouth had this cotton ball feel, and my urine was darker than normal (yes, I know TMI Tracy, but hey, its real parenting served raw ova here, no chaser 🙂 ) When I started to add this into my water, in about 48 hours I noticed the difference all around. The taste is also GREAT! At first, I was not sure what to expect. Some water enhancers either taste horrible or taste extremely artificial.  I was so happy I didn’t experience any of that with these products. Both flavors are super tasty; the flavor is not overbearing and adds just the right amount of flavor to your beverage. I even had my husband take a try and he agreed with me. In my opinion, this line is another win for UpSpring and I can’t wait to try more products from this line. You can shop U.Siip by visiting tryusiip.com and on amazon.com. You can also find them on TikTok, Facebook and on Instagram @tryusiip and @myupspring. While your at it, be sure to stop by and say hi to me- your virtual mommy BFF! @tracy_xoruddy.

Now that you read this article, take ya ass and get some H2O! 🙂

With love always,

Tracy|XoRuddy ❤

Isn’t this DOPE?! My husband created this on his own for U.Siip. You can find him on Instagram @1REALZebo and his company @comyoune , where he offers photo/video and marketing services to help build your brand and tell your story!

DON’T HOMESCHOOL! Without Doing This First

HELLO FRIENDS!

If you’re new to my little corner of the web, I want to welcome you with virtual open arms 🙂 and tell you a little about myself. My name is Tracy (but my friends and family call me Ruddy ; thanks dad<3 ). I’m a mom of 3 (at the moment 😉 ) and I hold a dual Bachelors degree in Education and Human services. I’ve spent many years working with the differently-able and in the mental health field  (I LOVE WHAT I DO) as a Case Manager. Now, this sounds even more crazy to me as I write this out, but we have been a Homeschool family for the last 7 years. Currently, we have a 7 year old who is in Second Grade , a 4 year old who has just started Kindergarten, and a 2 year old who has started Pre-K. Over the years, we’ve learned a lot during our Homeschool journey and I wanted to share my top 3 tips to take before starting your journey, so here we go! ………

(BTW, I think EVERYONE should Homeschool their child. I understand your concerns, but I’ve been there. At the very least, I think we should spend time teaching our children something new each day and not rely on the system to do so. A system that has no problem “rewriting” history, or leaving out the parts of life we really need to learn so we don’t feel as adults. Sorry, I always keep $0.02 to give out when it comes to things I’m passionate about.)

Tip One : Ignore the negative comments because they will come.

“Your kids will be socially awkward.”

“How will you socialize your kids?”

“It’s impossible to work and teach. I could never have my kids around me so much”.

If the “Big P” of 2020 has not made my children socially awkward, I strongly doubt Homeschooling would do so either. Their socialization was limited that whole year. They were no longer able to play with their friends, they were unable to attend their sport classes, parks were shut down, but we made do. We went to the department store and found GREAT outdoor toys that we used the whole summer into fall. We bought winter outdoor toys to have them enjoy the snow (If I did not mention, I’m from the East Coast. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, so winter on my side of the woods gets super cold, but I get to wear fall/winter fashion so heyyyyy!!!!!! 🙂 ).

As far as socializing goes, I grew up with the understanding that learning came first and friends last. So when I attended systematical school, my focus was always my lessons first. My parents had me in many after school activities, such as cheerleading, track and field, and I also had Piano classes three times a week. (Fun fact about me- I’ve been playing the piano since I was 5 years old!) After school activities are not only for children who attend systematical school, there are co-ops for Homeschoolers which your child can learn a new professional skill that sparks their interest. There are many local homeschool groups that families come together and do groups field trips, parties, and other fun activities. Libraries also have classes, which are in group settings, that your child can take and the bonus is many of them are FREE and as one of my older cousins would say, “Free is for me LOL”. So if you’re thinking of homeschooling and you’re worried about the social aspect- DON’T! I got you friend! 🙂

For the people who might say you can’t work and homeschool, “THE LIE DETECTER SAYS THAT IS A LIE!“. My husband and I have been working full-time since the very beginning of our family’s homeschool journey (now, through entrepreneurship). We would travel daily from the state of New Jersey to New York for work THE craziest of schedules. My husbands job(s) were not as flexible as mine. My job allowed me to be in office from 8 AM-1 PM and I was able to break free and work the rest of my shift remotely (case manager life). My mother would watch our kids while we worked and when I went back to her home, I would teach our kids and finish my case notes before 10 P.M. as we headed home to New Jersey. This had been our daily routine for many years. Our eldest child has been reading and writing small paragraphs since he was 5 years old. He knew his numbers to 100 by the time he was 4 and learning Spanish as a second language from the time he was 2 years old (both my husband and I speak the love language, to a degree). He has also been learning ASL (American Sign Language) from the age of 2 as well. (I learned ASL at the young age of 7 and have been using it throughout my daily life and professional life and its such an amazing skill to have!) We have done all this while working and I must add during this time I was promoted to Supervisor for my department and I was the youngest person to hold this title during this time. So, from my personal experience, it is totally possible to homeschool and be successful professionally; it is called DEDICATION!

*I’ve also personally been asked about college.

How will my kids attend college one day?

Most states in the USA require some form of testing in order to attend universities, such as the SAT’s. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE APART OF A SYSTEMATICAL SCHOOL FOR YOUR KIDS TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THESE TESTS. THERE ARE SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT WILL ALLOW, WITH ADVANCED NOTICE, YOUR CHILD TO TAKE THE NECESSARY EXAMS TO ENTER UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE.

Also, many universities LOVE homeschool children, such as Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Penn State and Yale, to name a few! It has been noted amongst these universities that homeschool children are more organized than many of their peers, and have been known to score higher on exams than their peers whom attended systematical school. Many of these universities actively seek homeschool children to attend their schools, so don’t let the negative comments stop your family from taking the steps to homeschool.

Tip Two : Not every state is created equal. Before considering homeschooling, it is important to learn the rules/laws of your state. If your child attended systematical schooling of any kind, there are documents you “should” submit to your school district. *In a later post, I will go over all this information. LIKE I SAID, FRIEND, I GOT YOU! :). My husband and I spent a year learning about all the laws for each state for homeschooling to familiarize ourselves in the event we needed to relocate for work, etc. and I will be sharing that with you all soon!

Tip Three: Take the time to learn your child-(ren)’s interests. We teach in our homeschool Monday through Thursdays and our children do their social group activities during these days also. We reserve Fridays for “Fry-yay Fun Day” as we call it. We use this day to do our field trips and explore the world around us or have art class, do an engineering project, etc.. Picking the right curriculum for our children has been easier because we have taken the time to learn their learning styles and their interests. We do something called core and loop lessons, which I will also go into more information about in post soon to come. That routine allows us to focus on the subjects that are needed in our state, and more, while allowing our children to explore a variety of their personal interests. Remember, your children have a voice, so be sure to take the time to listen to them.

When we first started on our journey, I was nervous, to be honest. I felt overwhelmed with information, and I even doubted myself (all normal feelings). After the first few months, my confidence grew and socially, when our children would attend events, we would always be asked what school do our children attend because they are “very advanced” for their age (if that’s not a confidence booster!). Our response would be that our kids are homeschooled and the look on peoples faces’ were priceless; the shock on their faces were everything LOL.

So, if your thinking about starting this journey, but are feeling lost and not sure where to start- I’ve been there and I hope by sharing these small, but useful tips and experiences, you feel less doubtful on your ability (because from a friend to a friend, YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!). I will be sharing a lot more information that will be useful for you and as my journey continues, the more information I will share. WHAT KIND OF FRIEND WOULD I BE IF I DID NOT HELP MY FRIENDS? 🙂

With love always,

Tracy | XoRuddy

We Have Exciting News!

Drumroll please…..

And now, please welcome, your newest BRAND CONSULTANT: XO RUDDY’s very own, Tracyyyyyy!

We are pleased to announce Tracy’s latest accomplishment as a Brand Consultant/Product Expert for U.Siip, the sister brand to UpSpring.

U.Siip creates hydration packets, filled with Electrolytes and plant based flavors, to make hydration less boring for women in all stages of motherhood. From pregnancy to breastfeeding, U.Siip aims to educate and empower women in their everyday lives.

During Tracy’s first and third pregnancies, staying hydrated was a struggle. With her first, she was down to 1 pocket of amniotic fluid before Dr’s had to schedule an emergency C-Section. With her third pregnancy, Tracy’s fluids had dropped as she struggled to keep up with her water intake. A scare at an ultrasound visit forced her to be more intentional with her water intake and she hasn’t looked back since.

Despite this, sometimes water is just plain boring. Luckily, U.Siip’s flavors keep things interesting. You can find the U.Siip brand here. Check out their site for info about how much water you need to hydrate yourself with during all stages of motherhood!

Until next time….

Thank you for your support and love!

Before you Leave, Let me Explain…

HEY FRIENDS!!

I know I’ve been gone for a while, but let me explain….

I talk a lot about self care and the importance of incorporating it in your daily life. When 2021 came a new, I made it my duty to be intentional with my time and my energy. My energy was off; it was off because of unhealthy relationships I was holding onto. The fog was REAL hun-tea !!

I had days where I couldn’t find the energy to come out of bed, to show up for my family and most importantly, for myself. I was clogged mentally; I felt stuck physically and verbally misunderstood (it was time for a sis to get some Drain-o and get unclogged okurrrr!). When I looked deeper, I realized that personal relationships that lasted way too long was the reason for my spiritual blockage.

I’ve always been aware that people and environments can totally shift your emotions, but when it came to my personal life, it was hard to see those red flags. When the red flags became visible, I went through a period of anger. “How in the world did I get caught up in the ring with narcissistic individuals?”, I asked myself over and over again. Working in the mental health field, I figured I would always be able to catch these situations before they became a virus in my life, but nope! How did I get cat-fished you wonder?

First, let me explain what a narcissist is. “It is a person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves”.  Now, one might say, “What’s the issue with that?”. Let me tell you…

These type of people lack the ability to be empathic. They find it hard to put themselves in others’ shoes. They feel as though others’ pain is not greater than theirs. They are GREAT, I mean GREAT, at playing the victim. You ever had someone in your life who has done so much wrong to you and the moment that you try to have a conversation about it, you get the river of tears (not Jordan) and something said along the lines of “I can’t believe you’re doing this to me”, etc?

I mean, I recall a moment where I had a group of photos in a frame in my home. These individuals came over and one of them started to make fun of my late father. I was later told that the person did this because they were upset about one picture I had in the frame and felt that I was throwing dirt in their face by having it in the frame and felt it was necessary to poke at my dead father because they knew it would hurt me. Never asking me why the picture was in the frame that was in my home, or maturely expressing their feelings to me. There are many more examples, but I won’t give those negative moments any more life than what they already had, so moving on.. ( look at that growth, YASSSSS!! )

Over years of revolving hurt, gaslighting, (manipulating someone by psychological means into questioning their own sanity), and as we would say in my culture, “ONE WHOLE BAGGA STRESS!” (Wah gwan Jamaica!), I finally saw the issue and the main issue that kept me bound for so long was TITLE. This group of people were supposed to be apart of my family. Family should not hurt you, right? One thing I learned over the years is that those closest to you have more access to hurt you because they know what makes you tick; the things that make your skin crawl. Messed up indeed, but truth in reality. After speaking with my soul sister and spiritual worker (WHAT’S UP JAE!!), I decided I was sick of feeling like SH*&. It was time to take a step back from the reality I created and do some internal work. It has been an amazing journey these last few months. My husband has been on this journey for sometime and it was so nice to be able to transcend to higher forms of self together. I had a meeting with the Dark Night of the Soul, (a period of spiritual desolation suffered by a mystic in which all sense of consolation is removed), and I faced so much that I had suppressed in order to exist, but not live.  To say it was painful would be an understatement. I did the work I put off for so long and it was SO WORTH IT!

SO NOW IM BACK BABY!!!!!! And better than ever.  I can’t wait to share some new and fresh content with you all. Thank you for re-reading and reading past articles and supporting my blog. I appreciate you all. NOW FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT BABY ‘CAUSE XO RUDDY IS ABOUT TO TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE!!
